We had a talk from Sue Loaker, the Crime Reduction Officer at the Cambridge Constabulary, who talked with us on steps that can be taken to reduce the chances of being a victim of crime at home and also about the 'Community Eyes and Ears' project. We then had a talk from Kevin Evans about Neighbourhood Watch and how it can help improve a community and even reduce household insurance premiums! If you were unable to attend but would like to find out more then please email residents@kirtlingandupend.org and we can fill you in.

At the end of the meeting we took the opportunity to hear the views of those who attended on the planning application (17/00986/FUL) for 7 houses on the land near Charing Cross. The application can be accessed from :

 http://pa.eastcambs.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=OR2BJPGGL2700&activeTab=summary

For those of you unable to attend, below is a brief summary of the main discussion points raised during the planning permission discussion:

Does Kirtling have the infrastructure (roads, public transport, shops, doctors, school etc) to provide for 7 more families, when 16 new dwellings are already approved?

Is this ‘back-land development’? Kirtling is a linear village, meaning properties are situated adjacent to roads, rather than in back gardens via an access road.

Will the design suggested fit in to the street scene of Kirtling? The development site is close to several listed buildings

Is this over-development of the site, given the density of houses around the area?

Is the design in keeping with the village?

Concerns were raised about the ecology of the site which seems to have changed over the last year or so, with trees and hedgerows having recently been cut down.

Anyone wishing to comment on the application should do so by the 12th July either by email to plservices@eastcambs.gov.uk or in writing to East Cambs DC stating the application number 17/00986/FUL.
